Long Terminal Kits for Wood 7½-in Threaded Terminal

Long Terminal Kits Our original CableRail system is an easy- to-install option for almost every project. It is packaged and ready to go in preset lengths and can be trimmed as needed in the field. Each kit includes:

Selected length of 1/8" diameter cable with Threaded Terminal pre-attached to one end

Quick-Connect ® Inset Fitting

Pair of flat washers (stainless steel for wood posts)

Railing Frame Options

Our Standard CableRail Kits are designed for frames where there is access to drill through both end posts; fittings anchor to the outer faces of the posts. Long Terminal Kits are are primarily used for wood railing frames and can be used with posts up to 6" x 6". Long Terminal Kits can be used for level or stair applications. A specially engineered 25-ft Stair Kit is available for easy stair applications, which includes a Quick-Connect ® Pivot fitting instead of an Inset fitting. See chart at right for details and options.

Manufactured from high-quality 316-grade stainless steel for weather-tough durability, ultra-low maintenance, and lasting beauty.

Conceal Kits are an easy-to-install cable railing system which provide an alternative solution to our original CableRail Kits - for customers who are looking for a slightly lower profile of the fittings on the end posts.

Conceal Kits for Wood Posts (100 series) have a CR Conceal Terminal pre-attached.

Low Profile Kits for Wood Posts A low-profile CableRail option with slender end caps and special compact cable fittings that hide inside the end posts for a completely symmetrical look. Each kit includes:

Railing Design Tips for CableRail

SELECT YOUR CORNER TYPE Double corner posts (recommended for wood and metal posts only) allow cables to either run continuously through a corner, requiring fewer fittings, or to easily terminate. SELECT YOUR POST MATERIAL CableRail infill works on railing frames with wood, metal, or composite-sleeved wood posts in either indoor or outdoor settings. WOOD METAL COMPOSITE

Single corner posts (recommended for composite-sleeved wood posts) are also an option and typically require the cables to terminate at the corner. (To use a single corner with CableRail Kits, one run will be offset by 1/2").

SELECT YOUR PICKET TYPE Slender intermediate pickets may be used instead of some bulkier intermediate posts to achieve a more open railing design while maintaining proper cable spacing. (For picket options see Page 30)

DESIGN TOP AND BOTTOM RAIL Always include a strong, rigid, securely fastened top rail to provide necessary strength to the frame and help support the cable tension loads. Underneath the top rail, attach a minimum 1" x 4" wood blocking between posts to provide additional lateral reinforcement to the posts. Bottom rails (optional) add rigidity to railing and can be an attractive and functional foot- rest addition to railing designs.

CableRail Frequently Asked Questions Are there any specific requirements to consider when designing my railing frame for use with Feeney CableRail infill? Properly installed cables will have a tension load of at least 300lbs per cable, so it’s important that your frame is designed and built strong enough to support these loads. Frames can also be designed to use cables more efficiently, thereby reducing the total quantity of cables needed and the overall cost. In most cases, just adding some simple reinforcing features and design changes will do the trick. For basic guidelines to help you prepare your railing frame, see the Feeney CableRail Installation Instructions and Frame Requirements. How far apart can I space the cables? The International Building Code states that a 4-in sphere cannot pass through any opening in your railing, and since cable is non-rigid, the flex of the cable must be taken into account. Therefore, we recommend spacing the cables no more than 3-in apart in order allow for possible cable deflection and meet the intent of the code. Before starting a CableRail project, the installer should always check with their local building department to see if there are any special local requirements for using and installing cable railings. How far apart can I space my posts? We recommend having a post or vertical member (intermediate picket) at least every 3-ft. With the posts/verticals spaced 3-ft apart and the cables spaced 3-in apart, you should be able to tension the cables so that they won’t open past the 4-in sphere code requirement when a reasonable force is applied. Why would I consider using intermediate pickets on my railing frame? Intermediate pickets (also referred to as vertical spacers) are used as a frame design option to replace some of the larger, bulkier intermediate posts in order to achieve a more open railing design. They are non-structural members and are only intended to maintain cable spacing and minimize possible cable deflection. Intermediate pickets are typically made from 1 x 2-in or 2 x 2-in wood strips, 1-in copper water tubing, or 1/4-in thick metal flat bar, but other slender materials may be used as well. You may also use one of our pre-drilled Feeney Intermediate Pickets. What’s the longest cable run I can have? Straight runs of cable (no corners or bends) should not exceed 70-ft. Runs with corner bends (using double corner posts) should not exceed 40-ft and should not have more than two corners per run. What tools are needed to install Feeney CableRail? The beauty of the CableRail Kits is that you don’t need special crimpers or tensioning tools. The basic tool list would include safety glasses, work gloves, tape measure, pencil, electric drill & bits, hammer, 7/16-in wrench, locking pliers, hacksaw, cable lacing needle, cable cutters or electric grinder with cutoff disk. We also recommend using the Feeney Tension Gauge to measure final cable tension. What happens if I need to remove the Quick-Connect ® fitting from the cable? Should this occur, use our Quick-Connect ® Release Tool (sold separately) to unlock the jaws on the Quick-Connect ® fitting.

Why would I need to use a Cable Lacing Needle? The cable is made up of 19 individual wires that are twisted together. Sometimes, these individual wires can splay open and snag when lacing the cable ends through the post holes. The reusable Cable Lacing Needle slides onto the end of the cable and keeps all of the wires contained within the needle allowing you to quickly guide the cable through the holes without snagging. Can you pass the Cable Lacing Needle through the Quick-Connect ® fitting? No! The diameter of the Cable Lacing Needle is too large and will become wedged in the QuickConnect ® fitting, rendering the fitting useless. Be sure to remove the Cable Lacing Needle and cleanly trim the end of the cable before inserting the bare cable into the Quick-Connect® fitting. What is Feeney CableRail made of? All CableRail cables and fittings are made from high quality 316-grade stainless steel (also referred to as “marine grade”). This high quality stainless steel offers beauty, superior weather durability, high strength, and low maintenance characteristics that far exceed other traditional railing infill materials. What will I need to maintain Feeney CableRail cables? CableRail cables and fittings are made from high quality 316-grade stainless steel and are low maintenance, but do require maintenance periodically. Wipe the cables with soap and warm water and use either a rag or non-abrasive synthetic pad to keep them clean and free of salt or other contaminates. We also recommend use of our Feeney SteelProtect™ protectant product on a regular basis to leave a protective layer that can help maintain the performance and luster of our cables and fittings. While rare, corrosion or staining may sometimes occur on stainless steel due to airborne contaminants, humidity, and other factors, especially in coastal environments. Our biodegradable SteelRenewal™ cleaning gel can be used to effectively remove rust, staining, and other contaminants without scrubbing. Simply apply, allow it to sit, and then rinse it off. Be sure to also check the cables periodically for proper tension (re-tension as necessary). Is there any additional maintenance required for harsh environments? For CableRail installations with harsher conditions, such as coastal environments, we recommend cleaning your cables and applying our Feeney SteelProtect™ protectant product regularly. Please see the information above to learn more about cable maintenance, including re-tensioning the cables and recommended use of our SteelProtect™ and SteelRenewal™ cleaner and protectant products. Do the cables need to be attached with fittings at every post? No. The cables are laced freely through holes in the intermediate posts and are then tensioned with end fittings that attach to only the termination posts. Can I attach the cables directly to the face of a wall or post? The cable fittings used with CableRail Kits are attached by drilling holes all the way through the end posts, and the fittings then bear up against the outside faces of the posts. If your railing frame runs into the face of a wall, you will need to install an end post no more than four inches away from the wall face to allow access for attaching the cable end fittings. There are also other types of CableRail fittings that are designed for particular attachment conditions, such as wall mounting, and you can ask your authorized Feeney CableRail dealer for details. Can I run the cables continuously around a single corner post or do I have to terminate? For wood and composite sleeved posts, you will need to terminate the cables at a single corner post. In order to run the cables continuously around a corner, you would need to have double posts at the corner.
